Fork in the Road - Part 2: Grocery shopping

Updated: Sep 25, 2023

Grocery Shopping

In a previous post, I mentioned how going grocery shopping became a trigger for me very early on in this endeavor. Well, I am going to rewind us just a little before I go into that. In July 2022, I made a post on Facebook that I was now allergic to Soy, Egg, Mustard, Peanuts, Buckwheat, Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Green Peas, Navy Beans, Lima Beans, Squash, Almonds, Avocado, and Blueberries. A friend of mine from our church Small Group, who is a Holistic Nutritionist, shot me a text. She told me that was clearly not normal, and that I needed to seek further attention and request certain tests from my GI doctor. At that point, I learned about the bacterial infections in my gut.

Upon this news and armed with super powerful antibiotics and steroids, I reached out to my friend Morgan again. I needed help on how to treat this with nutrition as well. She provided me with a laid-out menu with nutrition tips to help combat the bacteria. Now, the only issue was that I still didn't know how to shop for safe products for myself (which is what was causing so much stress and anxiety around grocery shopping). So, I asked if she ever took clients grocery shopping, and we did just that. I hired her as a grocery shopping partner to help me get through a grocery trip. I know, I know, y'all probably think I am crazy but seriously, I could not do it myself. It's nearly impossible to read every nutrition label for all of the food alone. I will soon be providing you with a list of all the ways these allergens are hidden in foods, and you'll quickly understand why.

I am so grateful to Morgan for reaching out after my Facebook post, as she was one of my first major advocates during this journey. Below is a little information on Morgan as well as a link to her website.

"I am a trained Holistic Nutritionist with a focus on helping women heal from the inside out. We place emphasis on hormone balance, inflammation, and gut health which leads to better overall health, physically, mentally, and emotionally. I am a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in nutrition and am currently working on a Board Certification in Holistic Nutrition." Morgan Liner - Natural Path Nutrition
