Mama Turns 40

I turned 40 on February 26, 2023. When we lived in Colorado, we never got a chance to ski because of having a baby (didn't feel comfortable leaving the baby with a sitter yet), and then getting pregnant again, so I said when Mama Turns 40, we would take a trip! So, we did just that, we took our family out to Colorado to go skiing and enjoy all of the things like Dog Sledding and Snowmobiling! It was the BEST trip ever. We signed the girls up for ski school for half of the first day, and when we picked them up, we immediately hopped on the chairlift and took them up to see what they learned. They BLEW OUR MINDS! I thought for sure there would be fear, but nope, they both went right down the mountain. They were hooked!

They are constantly asking to go back... too bad we haven't hit the lottery yet, so we could make it a yearly tradition haha. (We do visit yearly but usually during off-season to see the Aspens)

A core memory for all of us is going Dog Sledding! That was seriously one for the books. What an amazing opportunity. Every single one of us, including the girls, got a chance to drive the sled!

Snowmobiling was adrenaline-filled! wow, I had never driven one before, and it was a blast. At times we hit speeds up to 60mph. We took a tour that led us through the mountains all the way up the Georgia Pass atop the Continental Divide, 11,585 ft above sea level! The views were absolutely amazing, the air was tough to breathe, but man oh man, what a trip. An excursion we would 100% do again, even in summer with 4-wheelers!

What is it like traveling with a billion food allergies, the three hardest ones to avoid: soy, mustard & egg? A lot of preparation goes into any trip, without allergies, but add allergies in, and you're in a different ballgame. To help make the travel part easier, I purchased an awesome backpack cooler to have food on hand at the airports and during transportation. Also, we kept food in the car during our excursions since I couldn't just pop through a drive-thru.

The backpack cooler I purchased is rated to keep food cold for 48 hours and is a bit pricey. I will be doing a price comparison for backpack coolers soon.

I booked a hotel with a full kitchen in the room so that I could prepare most of our meals. Again, it's not ideal, and some people feel vacation should be cooking-free, but having peace of mind that I wouldn't get sick on our vacation outweighed the cooking part. I kept those meals super simple. I utilized Instacart for grocery delivery to be delivered upon arrival to avoid grocery shopping once we got there. The hotel provided a free breakfast buffet so the girls and Ryan were able to take advantage of that, and I would make my breakfast in the room. Everyone was happy!
